The 2014 edition of the International Book Fair in Turin will be digital. 10 startups have been selected through a competition to show their projects at the ‘Book to the Future’ exposition area
The sustainability, innovation, and capacity to satisfy both the reader demand and the expectations of publishers and sponsors, is one of the challenges for both the digital and traditional publishing sector. It has been said often recently that it is truly difficult to find solutions for this sector that is in such serious economic crisis.
Looking at the “24 sites that changed journalism” timeline produced by Il Futuro dei Periodici (The Future of Periodicals) it is clear that, regardless of best intentions, very few publishers can truly boast of a sustainable business.
So, Il Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino (The International Book Fair of Turin) has decided to take on this challenge and has selected 10 international startups to be hosted in the area dedicated to the theme ‘Book to the Future’.
The startups were chosen through a competition held between January 28 and March 15. Those chosen come from Lithuania, Switzerland, U.S., and Italy. The criteria used for selection was “innovativeness, creativity, and doability of the project and the capacity to engage publishers and readers”. (altro…)
