The e-commerce company has reached 5 million downloads worldwide and is now testing its photo recognition app (a tool that allows products to be searched for by using photos) in Italy.
Zalando has launched a trial for using its Photo Search app in Italy. The new feature allows Zalando clients to take photos of clothing items or models and then by uploading the image find similar articles within the vast catalog available at the online shop. Image recognition is available for iOs apparatuses and will be implemented shortly for Android as well. From the moment it was launched, the Zalando app has been downloaded over 5 million times worldwide.
“Image recognition by Zalando offers our clients a new and very useful way to do online shopping – it they like the look of a friend or an outfit that they see while walking around, they can choose from similar references in our catalog, and make acquisitions without lengthy searches”, declared Giuseppe Tamola, Zalando country manager for Italy. “The innovative function improves user experience with the Zalando app, which already became one of the most popular online shopping apps shortly after its launch”.
Developed in collaboration with technological partner Cortexica, the feature improves the mobile experience of the Zalando App, offering an innovative way to browse through the over 1,500 brands that are available on the website. And to further improve the acquisition experience of its clients, Zalando will soon integrate other features dedicated to the users of its app: among these the Fashion Agenda, an inspirational section of the shop that includes the latest trends, outfits, top products, and much more.
“We are constantly looking for new technological approaches and innovative solutions that help our more than 13.7 million clients in Europe when shopping online at Zalando. This involves offering different ways to access the wide range of brands we have in our catalog”, stated Christoph Lütke Schelhowe, VP Customer Experience at Zalando. “as well as representing another way of accessing our catalog, the Photo Search feature is an element of engagement that can also be used in a playful and inspirational way”.
The Zalando app was developed internally by a team of 26 people. With over 500 workers employed at the Technology Department, the majority of company processes, including logistics, designs, and payment, are realized in-house.
